European Heritage Days in La Ballue…

On the “European Heritage Days” we went to visit La Ballue jardins, located somewhere between Rennes and Mont St Michel. The weather was perfect, just a little cold at first. The gardens were OK, great if you are fond of topiaries (which is not our case), great view to the landscape beyond. But very few flowers.

After visiting the gardens on our own we joined the visitors for what promised to be a very special visit of the château, guided by the owner herself. Alas, she proved to be a very amateur guide, very verbose, lecturing us on French history, lamenting the lack of support of the government & ministry of culture for the “poor” château owners who have so much to spend on keeping the place going. She went on and on, for at least 45 minutes outside the place at first, then we all went inside and the lecture continued. We got fed up and left.
