Compact, clump-forming, deciduous grass, to about 1m tall, with narrow, arching bright green leaves with a white midrib, which turns golden-yellow in autumn, fading to pale brown in winter. Feathery flower panicles open rich red in late summer and early autumn, fading to silver and remaining on the plant over winter.
